2 Chicks Farm

I woke up at 5:30 a.m. at Miller Park in Utica, Ohio. I had to pack up a soaking wet tent fly. I’m really looking forward to a dry morning. I made my usual cup of coffee and loaded up.

I walked back into Utica to the Presbyterian Church to speak to the Utica Merchants. These were business leaders from the Utica community. I had the opportunity to share about United Way and the 50 day walk. Afterwards, there was more time for discussion and I received some very nice donations toward our $50,000.00 goal. Thanks Merchants!

Following the merchants meeting, Leigh Ann and I headed to the Pioneer Restaurant. As we walked in, I was greeted with applause and took the opportunity to share about United Way and our journey. To our surprise, we were treated to a free breakfast. It really hit the spot. After enjoying some conversation with a few more customers, we took a picture with a few of the staff.

After we left the Pioneer Restaurant, it was time to walk to one of the newest businesses in town, the Mill St. Distillery. The building looked like something right out of prohibition days. Carlos Ogden and some of the other employees opened up that day just to give us a tour. What a fascinating operation. We learned a lot about the process and regulations of making alcohol in Ohio. They are doing a great business but also promoting the safe and responsible consumption of spirits.

After we left the Main St. Distillery, it was time to leave the Utica area and head to 2 Chicks Farm. There, I was welcomed by Andy & Mamie Hollenbeck. They gave me a tour of their chicken facility that raises meat and eggs.

That evening, they had dinner and invited Jim Kiracofe and some other people from the Farm Bureau.

We had an opportunity to share about United Way and to learn more about the Licking County Farm Bureau. Around 9:00 p.m., it was time for bed. Before bed, I got a few great pictures of the sun setting in Eden Township.
